Graveyard Keeper 2 Mine: Old Mine, Dynamite & Zombie Miners

Updated 2026-09-28 · Searched as “graveyard keeper 2 mine”

Short answer

The mine sits in the Forest, on the road to Hans's camp before the bridge to the Swamp, and its entrance is blocked. The quest Can't See The Forest for the Iron opens it: give Larry 1 Simple Candle, collect the bandits' Dynamite and blow the blockage with Building mastery 8. Then research Zombie Mining (60 red, 10 blue) to place Zombie Miners and a Porter Station for a renewable iron supply.

Where the mine is

The mine entrance is in the Forest, along the road towards Hans's camp and before the bridge to the Swamp.

Community wikis name it differently — Fextralife calls it the Forest Mine, wikily.gg the Old Mine — but it is the same place.

You reach it after clearing the Forest Outpost checkpoint, which is also where the quest that opens it begins.

Can't See The Forest for the Iron

Past the Forest Outpost you meet the bandits, which starts Can't See The Forest for the Iron.

Find Larry at home or at the Inquisition Base, choose The Miners' Treasure and hand him 1 Simple Candle.

Go back to the bandits' camp to receive 1 Dynamite, then use it on the blocked entrance.

Clearing the blockage needs Building mastery 8. If the prompt refuses, that is almost always the reason.

The Simple Candle Larry wants

The candle comes from the Church Lighting I technology and is made at the Formulation Bench from 2 Beeswax and 1 Flax Thread.

Church Lighting I is also what unlocks the Formulation Bench itself, so one research covers both — our Formulation Bench guide has the build cost.

Dynamite: recipe and other uses

The quest hands you the first Dynamite. After that you can craft it once the Dynamite technology is unlocked.

The recipe is 2 Explosive Dust and 1 Alcohol at the Formulation Bench, taking 8 ticks at 2 energy per tick and needing Anatomy mastery 5. The Alchemist perk gives a 50% chance of a bonus stick.

Explosive Dust is an alchemy brew, and Alcohol comes from the Distillation Cube — see our alchemy and alcohol guides.

Dynamite has two more uses in The Town: the Demolish the Wall restoration project and the Broken Wall repair, 1 each.

Zombie Mining: automate the mine

Zombie Mining is a Metallurgy technology costing 60 red and 10 blue, and it needs Iron Smithing (50 red) first.

It unlocks two stations: the Zombie Miner and the Porter Station.

Place a Zombie Miner at the mine's Blueprint Desk for 2 Wooden Plank and 4 Brick. Its task needs only mastery 1, and an Iron or Steel Pickaxe in the zombie's hand makes it work faster.

Dynamite clears the mine entrance, Zombie Miners produce iron ore, and a Porter Station zombie carries it back to base.

Original summary of the mine route described above: clear the entrance, staff Zombie Miners, carry the output home with a porter. Not an in-game screen.

What the Zombie Miner produces

Each 8-tick cycle yields Iron Ore without any ore going in, and pays the worker 1 red tech point.

The same cycle also yields 2 Coal, so one miner supplies both inputs of the Smithy's Iron Ingot recipe.

With the Magpie's Eye perk, the miner has a 10% chance to turn up a Gem as well.

If the zombie stations never appear

Players on the Steam forum report that the zombie stations only unlocked after they cleared both the entrance and every rock blocking the tunnels between the mine and their basement.

The rocks at the ends of those tunnels are easy to miss if you travel by teleport. Walk the route once and clear anything in the way.

From ore to Supply: Iron

A Porter Station staffed by a second zombie carries mine output back to base.

At base, the Smithy with its Hammer extension turns 1 Iron Ore and 1 Coal into 1 Iron Ingot, or the Furnace II smelts 3 ore with 30 Fuel.

Town orders want the iron packed as Supply: Iron — 6 Iron Ingots, 4 Boards and 8 Bronze Nails at the Woodworking Workbench I. Our iron guide covers the full chain.
