Short answer
There are four battle potion families, each in tiers I to III, and all are combat-only. Healing (2 red) restores 20 health; Damage (1 red, 1 green) adds +3 damage per hit for 30 s; Berserker (1 red, 1 green, 1 blue) makes sword and bow attacks cost no stamina for 15 s; Zombie Motivator (1 red, 1 blue) halves your zombie fighters' wait between attacks for 15 s. Drinking another potion restarts the timer.

How you learn them
Tier I battle potions are not in the tech tree: you learn them by brewing the right runes in the lab.
Tier II formulas come from technology research; wikily.gg lists tier III as learned by brewing again.
Each brew costs 1 Alchemy Flask and fuel, like any alchemy craft.

The Astrologer's Tower from the official media kit, the game's alchemy setting. Not a laboratory screen.

Buying instead
The Alchemist sells all four tier I potions from the start of the game; Healing Potion II joins at shop level 2.
The quest First... Sludge? also hands you 2 Healing Potions.
Potions stack to 20 and fit in a potion bag, universal bag or big universal bag.
Which one to carry
Healing is the safety net. Damage and Berserker both pay off with a strong sword, because their bonuses ride on each hit and each swing.
If your squad does the fighting, Zombie Motivator doubles its attack rate instead.
Brewing 25 potions earns the Novice Alchemist achievement — see our trophy guide.
